Recording & Transcription
How to record, pause, resume, and manage your transcription sessions.
Starting a Recording
Click the Record button on the home page. If this is your first time, your browser will prompt you to allow microphone access.
Once recording starts:
- A red indicator appears in the header showing recording time
- Your transcript appears in real time as you speak
- The audio streams directly from your browser to our transcription engine — it never passes through our servers
Pause and Resume
You can pause a recording at any time without ending the session:
- Click the Pause button during recording
- The timer pauses and audio capture stops
- Click Resume to continue where you left off
Pausing does not create a new session or consume additional credits.
Stopping a Recording
Click the Stop button to end your recording session. This will:
- Flush any remaining buffered text
- Calculate credits used (1 credit per minute, rounded up; under 10 seconds is free)
- Save the complete transcript
Real-Time Transcript
As you speak, text appears in two stages:
- Interim text (lighter color) — the engine's current best guess, may change
- Final text (normal color) — confirmed text that won't change
This gives you immediate feedback while ensuring accuracy.
Session Recovery
If you accidentally close your browser tab during a recording:
- Your transcript data is periodically saved (every 5 seconds)
- When you return, you'll see a recovery prompt to resume or discard the session
Managing Sessions
All your past sessions are available from the sidebar on the home page. You can:
- Click any session to view its full transcript
- Search across titles and transcript content using the search box at the top of the sidebar
- Organise into folders — create folders (and subfolders) and drag sessions in to keep things tidy
- Rename a session from the transcript header or the sidebar context menu
- Move to trash from the sidebar context menu; restore or permanently delete from the Trash folder
- Export sessions in various formats — see Export Formats
- Sessions are stored securely in your account
Tips for Best Results
- Speak clearly and at a normal pace
- Minimize background noise for better accuracy
- Use a headset for the cleanest audio input
- Keep the browser tab open during recording — the tab must stay active
